To Madrid Action Committee:
We urgently need your help! The Ankeny to Woodward Trail Steering Committee is applying for a Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Grant through the Vision Iowa program to raise the remaining funds needed for the trail and bridge. The high bridge and this beautiful trail will be a real community and tourist attraction in addition to a safe place for those of us who live here to walk, bike, skate and ride horses (east-west section). The CAT grant is our best chance to raise the rest of the money needed to turn this vision into a reality.
For our grant application to succeed, the Vision Iowa Board requires the commitment of funds from individuals, businesses and community organizations as well as local governments. Your contribution, large or small, will help leverage the last money needed to complete the trail and the Des Moines River Bridge.
Why the urgency? Because of the timing of the CAT Grant process, we need to secure pledges of support as soon as possible. The Ankeny to Woodward Trail Steering Committee is planning to submit the grant application on April 1, in time for the April 9 Vision Iowa Board meeting. We need as many pledges/contributions as possible to include with our application. To go with the application they should be received no later than noon on Monday, March 31; pledges received between March 31 and April 8 can be hand carried to the board meeting.
Don’t know how much to give? Every $40 buys at least a linear foot of 6-inch concrete trail (more if bids come in as low as expected). Consider paying for a foot or more for your family to use. It should last at least 20 years.
Your money does not have to be contributed at this time, but we need your pledge of a specific amount. You may use the attached gift/pledge form or send a letter indicating how much you are pledging.
Your pledge or contribution means more now than it ever will. Checks/pledges should be made to: Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation – Ankeny to Woodward Trail (be sure to note this!)
