Madrid Garden Club

March 23 Season opening meeting at the fellowship hall of St. John's Lutheran church Beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a Potluck. April 27 Meeting at Madrid Home (room to be announced) Meeting time 7:00 p.m. Program "Senior Con Games" by speaker from Home Instead Senior Care
May 1 Madrid Garden Club annual Plant Sale May 12 Madrid Garden Club hosts the annual TriClub Meeting with Boone and Ames clubs at the Iowa Arboretum. Meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. with a potluck, bring a dish to share and your own table service. The program will be by Denny Schrock, Editor, BHG Garden Group. The program is planned to be his trip to Holland.
June 22 Our annual Picnic beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Edgewood Park Log Cabin Everyone is invited, bring a dish to share and your own table service Program "The Reiman Gardens" by Aaron Steil from Reiman Gardens.
July 27 This meeting is planned as a trip to the Home of Bob and Nancy Briggs (1071 X Avenue; Boone, IA) beginning at 7:00 p.m. where we will tour the garden there and our program will be "Water Gardening" by Jamie Beyer
August 24 This meeting will be held beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship room of St. John's Lutheran Church. It will be a meeting to prepare all those interested in entering items into the annual Flower show on September 4. Our speaker will be Garden Club Flower Show Judge, Sandy Gossman who will give tips and ideas for entries into the flower show and answer questions you may have.
September 3 & 4: The annual Madrid Garden Club Flower Show in the basement of St. John's Lutheran Church. Entries can be made between noon and 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept 3; or with prior arraignment with a club member. ENTRIES ARE OPEN TO ANYONE IN MADRID AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. Judging will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3. The flower show will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4. Entries may not be removed until 4:00 p.m. but must be removed between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m.
September 28 This meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the fellowship hall of St. John's Lutheran Church. The program will be "Hard Perennials for the Shady Garden" with a speaker from Country Landscaping of Ames.
October 26 This meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the fellowship hall of St. John's Lutheran Church. The program is "the Great MUM" by Deb Groth from Winterset.
November 23 This is the end of the year meeting. It will be held at the fellowship hall of St. John's Lutheran Church Beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck, everyone is welcome, bring a dish to share and your own table service. We do no have a planned program, this is an evening of fellowship and planning for program ideas for our next year.

Madrid Heritage Quilters
The Madrid Heritage Quilters was formed in 1983 by five members to commemorate Madrid's Centennial Celebration. Our purpose for organizing was to share the art or and love for quilting. Our experience levels are from novice to expert. We learn from each other as we work together on a club quilt, at classes and workshops, and during meetings.

Recreation

Beautiful parks, including the city's Edgewood Park (featuring a Disc golf course) Jensen Park and Swede Point Park, in a rural setting, offer outdoor recreational opportunities. The Iowa Arboretum (a library of living plants found in Iowa) is located a short distance from Madrid. Also within a short driving distance is Saylorville Lake, Big Creek State Park , Jester Park and Ledges State Park for camping, fishing, biking, golfing and boating facilities. Little League baseball and youth soccer entertain the young people during the summer months. The Tiger Bowl bowling alley is located within the city of Madrid.
