March 25 - First meeting of the new year
Begins with a Potluck meal at 6:30 p.m. at the Library Community Room
Program for the evening (after the meal) will be by Scott Smith the Boone
County Administrator will be giving a talk about "Recycling and the Future
of the Boone Redemption Center"April 22 - Meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the Madrid Historical Museum.
The Program for the evening is "Organic Gardening" with the tentative
speaker to be announcedMay27 - Meeting is 7:00 p.m. at the Madrid Library Community Room
The program for the evening is "Children's Gardens" and our speaker is yet
to be determined.
May is a busy month and along with our monthly meeting on the 27 we will
also be holding our annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 3. Attending the
annual Triclub meeting with the Ames and Boone garden clubs on May 8 at the
Iowa Arboretum, and holding a very special "National Garden Week Poster
Contest" for the Madrid Community youth.June 24 -Meeting begins with a potluck picnic at the home of Betty Richter (407
Fairview Drive) beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The program begins immediately following the meal and is "Designs from Your
Yard". Danielle Prevette from Something Chic Floral in Des Moines, IA will
be designing as we watch from flowers we have brought from our home yard
into vases we have also supplied. These designs will then be ours to keep.
Danielle will share design techniques and the latest 'fashion' in this
year's designs. This is always a fun evening.July 22 -We plan to have our meeting at the Madrid Home beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Our planned speaker for the evening will be Melanie Erickson, Master
Gardener from Boone, IA the title of her program is "Accessible Gardening"
about how to garden without hurting joints, what tools to use, how to
lighten pots vertical gardening etc.Aug 25 - Meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Madrid Historical Museum
The program will be presented by Sandy Gossman of Ames IA and will be on
"Preparing for the Flower Show" Sandy will give design ideas to go along
with the flower show program, will remind us how to prepare our horticulture
entries and answer questions about entering our items in our flower show.
The annual Madrid Garden Club Flower Show will be held Saturday, August 30
at the Madrid Historical Museum.Sept 23 - Meeting time is 7:00 p.m. at the Madrid Historical Museum
The program is planned to be "Prairie Restoration" with the speaker Danielle
Worth. Danielle is a professor at DMACC and is very active in Prairie
Restoration.Oct 28 -Meeting time is 7:00 p.m. at the Madrid Historical Museum
The program is planned to be "Wandering the Wild Lands: Native Plants in the
American Garden" presented by Kelly Norris who is the farm manager of
Rainbow Iris Farm in Bedford Iowa; contributing editor of 'Garden and
Greenhouse'; editor of 'Dwarf Iris Society of America' Kelly has spoken to
our club before we look forward to his return.Nov 25 - Last meeting or the 2008 year
Meeting time is 6:30 p.m. at the Madrid Library Community Room with a
potluck meal
We do not have a set program for the evening however we do invite our 2008
yards of the month to attend and receive a certificate and we always plan

Beautiful parks, including the city's Edgewood Park (featuring a Disc golf course) Jensen Park and Swede Point Park, in a rural setting, offer outdoor recreational opportunities. The Iowa Arboretum (a library of living plants found in Iowa) is located a short distance from Madrid. Also within a short driving distance is Saylorville Lake, Big Creek State Park , Jester Park and Ledges State Park for camping, fishing, biking, golfing and boating facilities. Little League baseball and youth soccer entertain the young people during the summer months. The Tiger Bowl bowling alley is located within the city of Madrid.
